OVERVIEW:
Street Vues was printed bi-monthly starting in 1983 by Street Vues Magazine in Sandy Springs, Georgia. It was published
by Jim Prather who had previously published Vette Vues. Content included
both pre-1949 cars such as hot rods and street rods, and it also included street machines -- cars from the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s.
The covers were printed on heavy stock paper, and the pages used fonts and formatting similar to Vette Vues.
The magazine also included classified ads, coverage of NSRA and USRA events, plenty of vendor advertising, and a calendar of upcoming
cars shows and rod runs. It typically ran 60 to 80 pages.
In early 1984, the cover page included the logo for the Street Rod Equipment Association (SREA) for which there is little information. And by late 1984, Mr Prather seems to have had a joint arrangement to be the "voice" of the United Street Rod Association (USRA) by providing coverage for their membership. This meant that USRA members got Street Vues with their club membership, and the USRA got a one page article of club events and news in each issue.
With the Jan/Feb 1985 issue, the publisher hinted at a similar arrangement with the WSRA and ISRA organizations. This culminated in a new look for the magazine with representation for the ISRA in the Jul/Aug issue. Numbering was restarted with volume one, yet only one issue was produced. We are still researching the meaning of these marketing arrangements and the strategic intent behind them besides the obvious, i.e., to expand readership.
