OVERVIEW:
Street Rod Builder (SRB) was published by Buckaroo Publishing and John Dianna. This was in all respects a
high quality magazine and one of the best in this time period. It was a slick publication with anywhere from 100 to
140 pages of content. It was launched simultaneously with Super Rod. SRB
focused on pre-1948 traditional hot rods and customs, while Super Rod focused on cars from the 1950s, 1960s
and 1970s.
SRB featured technical articles and how-to's with an emphasis on builds a home hot rodder could do. Although high dollar rods were featured, this was so builders could get design and current technology ideas and tips. Featured vehicles were traditional appearing hot rods, but these generally had more modern paint colors and technology like fuel injection, independent front suspension, air conditioning, etc. It was the hot rod magazine with likely the most "how-to" articles.
OWNERSHIP:
Mr. Dianna was a successful executive at Petersen Publishing, but when Petersen was sold to Primedia in the early 2000s he left to
form his own company. Buckaroo owned a number of other titles including
Rodders Digest and
Super Rod. More on
John Dianna can be found here.
