OVERVIEW:
1001 Custom and Rod Ideas was published in the large format style by Argus Publishing Corporation, the same organization that published Popular Hot Rodding and Popular Customs. The publisher was Gordon Behn.

Featuring hot rods and custom cars, it started as a quarterly issue in 1967, then went to monthly in June, 1975. This lasted until early 1977 when publishing was a bit sporadic. In 1978, the magazine went back to quarterly, and in 1979 it became an annual publication. Publication ceased after the 1983 issue.

Given the magazine started as a quarterly magazine, it afforded many opportunities for new editors to participate in the seventeen years of print production. Under the editorial guidance of George Elliott, editors included Lee Kelley, Tex Smith, Jack Scagnetti, Dave Hetzler, Don Edgington, Ed O'Brien, Phil Carpenter, Jay Amestoy, Tom Senter, Steve Coonan, Pat Ganahl, Al Hall, Jerry Hensley and Gene Winfield.
