OVERVIEW:
4WD Action magazine was published monthly by McMullen & Yee Publishing in Anaheim, California.
With the tag line, "The Complete Off-Roading Magazine", content focused on off-road and general four-wheeling with feature stories,
how-to's and event coverage. It was produced in the heyday of the "monster truck"
such as Grave Digger, so most issues featured these oversized and lifted trucks. The staff also did new truck road tests
for Jeeps, Broncos, Dodges, Chevy Blazers, Toyotas and even Sumarais. Typical events covered included the Baja 1000, the Mint 400 and
Gravelrama to name a few. Editors were Steve Stillwell and Bob Clark.
With the July, 1989 issue, the tag line became "The Sport Utility Vehicle Magazine" and content was changed accordingly. Then after 7 issues with this change, it was re-titled in September, 1990 to 4WD & Sport Utility and later to 4-Wheel Drive & Sport Utility. Numbering continued from 4WD Action to the successor titles.
The company had a large portfolio of magazines including Street Rodder, Popular Cars, Mustang Illustrated and VW Trends.
