OVERVIEW:
West Coast Sports Car Journal (WCSCJ) was published by Richard Sherwin and Art Evans at 1601 S. Highland Avenue and 4930 Venice Blvd., Los Angeles, California.
It began in February, 1955 and used the smaller trade-sized format. And in March, 1956 it used the full-sized format.
The magazine became the official publication of the California Sports Car Club in October or November 1956, and each member of the club was mailed a copy. Then in October 1957 it was re-titled as Sports Car Journal (SCJ). More information on Richard Sherwin and Art Evans can be found here.
Both WCSCJ and SCJ magazines were monthly titles devoted to coverage of California road racing, driver profiles, sport car drive tests and other general news. Contributors to the magazines included Buzz DeBardas, Jack Brumby, Doug Baney, Brian Steves, Simone Olson, Aston Royce, Art Evans, Roger Barlow, Ken Miles, Ron Simmons, Carroll Shelby and Art Alvarez.
After the magazine ended in April 1958, Richard Sherwin then became the advertising manager for CSCC Notes. CSCC Notes was the in-house publication of the California Sports Car Club. Sherwin later became the editor of a new title, California Sports Car in June, 1962.
