OVERVIEW:
Modified Luxury & Exotics (MLE) was started by Rob Laidlaw and his VerticalScope organization in Toronto,
Canada. Content
catered to the high-end market for performance-enhanced luxury cars and exotics such as Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Jaguar, BMW, Brabus,
Lamborghinis and others. These cars were modified both by owners and well known after-market tuners such as the Novitec Group and
Carlsson brothers. The magazine was very successful, much of which was due to the talents of Belgium photographer Joost Demuynck.
OWNERSHIP:
Mr. Laidlaw started a business in high school, and in 1999 -- at age 18 -- he left college
and moved to Toronto. He then created over 100 media properties in power sports, automotive and technology in rapid succession including
Modified Mustangs and MLE.
Primedia's Enthusiast Media division purchased VerticalScope's Modified Automotive Group in February, 2007. A few months after the acquisition, the division sold numerous titles to Source Interlink Media. MLE continued on for a few short years, but the economic downturn in 2008 caused the publisher to end the title after the Jan/Feb 2009 issue.
