OVERVIEW:
Honda Tuning was initally started by the McMullen-Argus Publishing Division of Primedia, a large media
conglomerate. The title was a spin-off from Sport Compact Car, another title focused on modified
Japanese Domestic Manufacturer (JDM) cars or "tuners". Honda Tuning exclusively covered
Honda vehicles and provided feature vehicle coverage and technical information on both performance and appearance upgrades.
The editors focused on the highest quality builds in their feature articles, and they provided good technical descriptions on how each build was done along with the products used. It was the most popular Honda-only title.
OWNERSHIP:
The editors and staff went through changes as the title moved through various new owners:
- 2007 -- Primedia sold this title and 70 others to Source Interlink Media for $1.2 billion;
- 2014 -- Source Interlink rebranded to TEN: The Enthusiast Network, and multiple titles were ended including Honda Tuning. The title was folded into Super Street magazine along with Import Tuner which closed at the same time.

PUBLICATION DATA:
The publisher provided net paid circulation data to Oxbridge Communication's compendium,
The Standard Periodical Directory from
1999 to 2004, and then later for 2012 and 2013. However, the publisher reported zero print volume for all years except for
2004 when they reported 202,000 annual print issues.
CONTENT COMPLETENESS:
We estimate a total of 125 to 130 issues were printed from Winter, 1998 through August, 2014. The Winter, 1998 issue was a
one-shot, and regular production started in 1999. Images are complete except for an unknown number of early
issues in 1999 and 2000.
