OVERVIEW:
Car Classics was published bi-monthly starting in 1966 by Ames Publishing Company in Tarzana, California. The magazine
focused on the hobby of collecting classic, antique and nostalgia cars. Articles covered the history of marques, restoration tips,
auction reviews and legal advice.
The original editor and publisher was Robert F. Ames. He led the organization until 1971 when there appears to have been a change in ownership. Mr Ames also started titles such as Four Wheeler and Western Treasures.
The magazine was published continuously until January, 1979, then was folded into Car Collector magazine to become Car Collector and Car Classics.
PUBLICATION DATA:
Car Classics had only two years of publisher-provided net paid circulation data near the end of its life. There were 78,000 to
82,000 issues printed annually.
CONTENT COMPLETENESS:
Sixty-two issues were printed from December, 1966 through January, 1979. All cover images are complete.
