OVERVIEW:
Popular Imported Cars began in October, 1964 as a bi-monthly publication and featured
road tests and reviews of small and affordable automobiles from mostly Europe and Asia. Publishing continued into 1974
when it was re-titled to Small Cars magazine, primarily to embrace more American small cars in the content.
OWNERSHIP:
The title was originally started by Frank W. Coggins and Pet Publications Inc at 47 Halsey Street, Newark,
New Jersey. Less than a dozen issues were printed, then it was sold to
Adrian Lopez and his Volitant Publications organization in early 1967. Mr. Coggins then became the editor.
Mr. Lopez published many magazines including Sir, True, Laff, Real Crime, Surfing, and Ladies' Circle, as well as automotive titles such as Stock Car Racing and Super Stock & Drag Illustrated.
