OVERVIEW:
High Performance, Your Guide to Speed was published by Emjay Publications, 51 E. 42nd Street,
New York, NY. It was a monthly magazine and focused on drag racing, speed performance how-to's and a smattering of
muscle car road tests. The publisher was Melvin F. Jacolow, who simultaneously published
Street and Strip with the same staff and contributors.
Mr. Jacolow got his start with Henry Scharf in 1960 at Rod Builder & Customizer magazine. In 1961, he begain working for Royal Publications as a managing editor at Swank, a girlie title, and at Cars The Automotive Magazine. He left in 1965 when Martyn Schorr took over as the editor.
