Speed & Custom - Magazine Covers - 1961 to 1966
Speed & Custom was the follow-on title to Car Speed & Style. It was published by Irwin Stein and Royal-Magnum Publications in New York from August, 1961 to August, 1966. The magazine started as a monthly issue, but in February, 1963 it switched to every other month. It started as a small-sized format but in May or June, 1963, it went to a larger format.
Note that volume and issue number assignments are scrambled and therefore confusing for this title. For example, after the February, 1962 issue the sequencing jumped two numbers.
PUBLICATION DATA: The publisher only provided two years of net paid circulation detail (1964 and 1965). In these two years, the magazine was in the #7 or #8 position among all automotive titles.
The magazine was re-titled again as Speed & Supercars in October, 1966.
